A collection of some of the narratives that are tapu to Maori which have been presented in verse. The book is an expression of art and is intended to be a bicultural expression of what it is to be New Zealanders, and is but a step along the way of directing Pakeha people to other works which have greater claim to authenticity of recording the traditions of nga Tipuna. Nick Thomson was born in South Africa and raised in Dunedin. He has worked as a doctor in a mission situation in Papua, and on his return to New Zealand continued his interest in physical and social anthropology and linguistics while engaging in rural general medical practice for 20 years with a special interest in obstetrics and trauma medicine. Since then he has been a somewhat roving GP locum and is presently engaged in hospice care. His wife Heather has illustrated this book.
